In his series Still Diets, fine art photographer Dan Bannino – featured previously – explores the weird and wonderful world of crazy celebrity diets by creating still life images of what they eat. Putting together actual spreads of different delicacies and drinks for each subject, and then photographing them, his images look like the classic still life paintings by the Old Masters, particularly Caravaggio.
“The importance of light in every rim of my virtual canvas is a fundamental element of the composition,” Dan says. “During the development process another substantial inspiration came from the artworks of Dutch artists from the Golden Age, researching and studying those elements as symbols of vanity. The result is a mash-up of old and new, baroque and modern.”
Whose diets can we expect to see? Lady Gaga and her “Baby Food” diet; Jacqueline Kennedy and her caviar, potato and cottage cheese diet; Karl Lagerfeld and his ‘Lagerfeld’ diet; Sophia Loren and her pasta diet; Usain Bolt and his Chicken McNuggets diet, and many more. Here, we share a selection of Dan’s Still Diets series, something he began in 2014. You can discover more at danbannino.com. Or follow him on Instagram.
