London-based illustrator Aysha Tengiz has published her first picture book and it’s about a lonely elephant called Fil who finds a friend in a very unexpected place: a spot on his forehead.
We’re introduced to Fil, dressed in bright red trousers with chequered braces, as he wanders down a colourful street in London. His head is dipped in sadness and woe, that is until he discovers the little pimple. The pink spot becomes a character that interacts with him, cheering him up as he goes about his day.
“The idea stemmed from living and working in London, which is hard,” explains Aysha. “Although the city is filled with over eight million people, it’s easy to feel alone. My character Fil finds a friend in a pimple on his forehead. He enjoys the simple pleasures a day can bring if they’re shared with a friend.”
Aysha has worked in the industry since graduating from Camberwell three years ago. A lot of her work covers themes of isolation and loneliness. You can discover more at www.ayshatengiz.com.
