Things take a rather surreal turn in a new campaign from creative studio ManvsMachine which really does leave everyone involved asking, “what the cluck?”
Working with Mother London, the studio directed, illustrated and animated a series of commercials for KFC’s latest promotion that among other deals, offers nine pieces of chicken for £5.99 every Tuesday.
The studio describes the work as “something a bit less expected from us, and lots of fun to watch”, and it’s right: the shorts see groups of pals going about their business—playing basketball, doing some pretty nuts tricks on BMX bikes, playing guitar—suddenly come to the realisation that there are some serious fried chicken bargains to be had when huge animated numbers come out of nowhere and tell them so.
These quasi Road to Damascus moments see the characters transform into what ManvsMachine terms “super-charged animated chickens…Turning every day into the cluckin’ extreme.”
It seems like a good time for KFC in terms of commissioning creative: last year’s D&AD awards saw Mother London scoop a yellow pencil for its response to the well-publicised chicken shortage faced by the brand.
